Storefront Cinema (Oct 7th to 12th, 2021)

Come join us for a fun socially distanced event for all ages!

What?

The Storefront Cinema is a week-long project of short videos that will be shown in various stations along Stony Plain Road. The event will be using the windows of vacant spaces as areas to project silent one-minute films looped every 30 minutes. While viewers are captivated by these imagery stories they will be able to envision their new favourite business occupying these vacant spaces. There will be 2 different sets/programs of films in 3 different locations. This event adheres to all COVID-19 guidelines and supports safe spaces to engage outdoors.

Why? 

This project  brings our community together, safely, for a unique viewing experience. By creating opportunities and positive activities we hope to increase walkability in the area. It will offer opportunities for residents and visitors to explore and become reacquainted with Stony Plain Road as a cultural site, while building a better sense of community through positive citizen activity at a human scale. We also know there are lots of unique and interesting businesses and sites along central west Edmonton and we want to increase customers and business within our area.

Who?

Storefront Cinema will utilize talented local artists that we have within Edmonton. We are collaborating with FAVA – the Film & Video Arts Society of Alberta to bring  a unique viewing experience right to the community’s doorstep. This event is produced by Stony Plain Road Business Association and is made possible through Jasper Place Revitalization, the support of West Block Glenora and the City of Edmonton.

Where?

We will be hosting our Storefront Animation Project at the following sites:

• 110B 300 West Block Drive NW (Program 1)
• 15501 Stony Plain Road NW (Program 2)
• 10025 167 Street (Program 2)

When?

The projections will be showing nightly from October 7th – 12th 2021 between dusk and midnight – roughly starting at 7:00 p.m. Grab a beverage or some snacks from a local business and come explore the new SPR – there is something for everyone!
