SPR: Emerge Artist – Angel Poon

Tell us more about the piece you will be submitting to SPR: Emerge

For my piece, I was inspired by the idea that it is the people/individuals in a person’s life that make them feel at home or like they belong to a community. Each of the silhouettes in my piece belongs to a close friend or family member that makes me feel at home.

What makes you passionate about art?

I’m passionate about art because it is simultaneously a way to be seen and a way to be heard. Art can be whatever it wants to be for whomever it chooses, and I think there’s something beautiful in that.

How can art bring together a community?

Art can bring communities together by breaking down barriers. Art does not care who you are, where you come from or what languages you may speak; art connects us through thoughts, emotions, memories and vulnerabilities.

How long have you been creating art?

Probably since I was 3 or 4 years old. I’m grateful to have grown up in a household that encouraged creativity and respect for the arts.

Which business will be displaying your art?

I am very grateful for the opportunity to showcase my art at The Gilded Rabbit!
