Stony Plain Road Business Association is looking for dynamic, playful and creative stars to join our team for summer 2023.

About SPR:

The Stony Plain Road Business Association is a not-for-profit business improvement area (BIA) in west Edmonton. Our area is a composed of mature neighbourhoods experiencing revitalization with infrastructure and community engagement. Our mission is to support and promote local businesses and the BIA with programming, communications, and marketing strategies. We support our 500+ members through advocacy, education, and smart development which attracts and supports safer and more positive community-level engagement and activation.

This coincides with significant new developments. A shopping and service area intersected by an arterial road, Stony Plain Road is transforming into a transit-oriented development supported by street-grade LRT service. Over the next 10 – 20 years, these new developments will result in about 23,000 new residential units being built.

With a new brand and focused strategic approach, paired with a strong and passionate vision for the area, we are looking for individuals who understand the value of engagment and of empowering our local business community.

1) Special events assistanT

The Special Events Assistant is responsible for supporting and executing SPRBA's special events by partnering and working with local community leagues, businesses, and social service agencies in our district. This includes working in tandem with our staff team. The goal of this position is to build capacity and community partnerships for two special events taking place between June - September, 2023.

You will work with communities to provide logistical support and execution of outdoor community events, evalulating their successes and challenges, and provide future recommendations. Targeting local communities that live within a ten block radius of our shopping district, this position is designed to build upon and strengthen the sense of community with the residents of six distinct neighbourhoods in the area.

You will work with our staff to build rapport with local area merchants and services, and will require an open and realistic approach that looks to build connections within a community of diverse social and economic experiencs

Events include "Let's Get Physical", a day-long event focused on accessibility and physical health, and an open air "Movie Night" with a back-to-school theme targeting younger families.

This position is for 10 weeks (32 hours/week) at an hourly rate of $18.50.

Applicants will be required to work some weekends and evenings depending upon the scheduling of events and projects. This position will require on-site working and some remote working, and compliance to Alberta Health regulations regarding COVID-19 protocols.

2) Advertising & Promotions Assistant

The Advertising & Promotions Assistant works directly to support our shop local campaign, with the goal of expanding the depth and frequency of local neighbourhood shopping within our BIA. You will identify and target projects that increase awareness of the variety of shops and services within the communities of Stony Plain Road, highlighting it as an alternative to shopping at big box stores and malls.

You will work with our staff  to enhance levels of local engagement and event site activation, whilst improving how we support and engage local merchants.

The position involves social media and the management of several digital marketing initiatives, including on-site marketing of our Young Giant Big Bucks campaign, and several contests over the summer months. This is a tremendous opportunity to translate the skills and theories learned at school and activate this learning in a real world setting.

We are seeking an individual in post-secondary studies with marketing, sales, and/or business acumen. The position will utilize existing developed strategies and campaigns, supporting their shared goals and outcomes. A strong communications skills set is also required.

This position offers $18.50/hour for 10 weeks at 32 hours a week.
